This is not the poem this card should have evoked. Clearly by my staging of the photo and the image on the card, meant it to be a romantic love poem. Yet, love is more complicated because we, each of us, is complicated and messy, bumbling around in our primitive egos. Something to think about, I guess.
Day 6 of National/Global Poetry Writing Month (AKA NaPoWriMo). Card from The Love Pack by Chuck Spezzano PhD.
Honestly, what sparked this poem was watching two characters on season two of Bridgeton struggle against love for each other with duty and pride. Like love, poems come how they come; we just receive them even with flaws.
Love
The Beatles say “all you need is love”
but love is all there is.
We may be blind to it,
run from it,
get our self in the way by longing for it,
find it and let our ego drive it away,
yet
it is there in so many chances
so many moments to give
to listen
to really see
another.
You may say there is hate
Duality says there has to be hate
Maybe hate is just fear of loss,
maybe hate is not trusting,
not seeing,
missing chances to love instead.
