I think giving of oneself is much different than people pleasing. People pleasing requires that hit of reward from the other while giving, truly giving of self, requires no reward. Funny thing, though, unselfishly giving does come back to us in joy, altruistic joy. This card says giving of self is the secret to partnership, intimacy, success, and even problem solving. It gives us purpose and self-worth. All that is definitely worth exploring in a poem.
Day 24 of National/Global Poetry Writing Month (AKA NaPoWriMo). Card is “Giving Oneself” from The Love Pack by Chuck Spezzano PhD.
Giving Oneself
Love begins with Give.
There is an irresistible vulnerability
and honestly in giving.
The riffle-effect
of selfless kindness
reverberates out
from the benefactor
spreading in a web of benevolence,
a train of blossoms in giver’s wake.
When we bestow a gift,
especially from our gifts,
to another without expectation
we are loving ourselves.
We are wholeheartedly open
and receiving back
the echoes our generosity.
