Mend Prayer – 15 NaPoWriMo

This 15th word pairing prompt brought to mind that childhood “now I lay me down to sleep” prayer. Of course, our own efforts and choices direct our lives, but there is a power in affirmations, intention setting, visioning, and especially gratefulness. Prayer and meditation tap into that power. And, as did that childhood prayer, it a way to acknowledge and accept death and the things we cannot control. Here is my modernized version of that childhood poem. NaPoWriMo.

15 Mend Pray

Mend Pray

Bring back nightly prayer
to God, Universe, the Great Bear.

“I rest in your unending love”
please bless the earth and sky above.
“May the angels watch me through the night”
and gird my innate kindness, sense, and might.
“I pray the Lord my soul to keep”
for my hopes and dreams run deep
but “if I die before I wake”
I am grateful for the memories I will take.
