Day 14 of National/Global Poetry Writing Month (AKA NaPoWriMo). Tarot card prompts.
From a young age on, I have been interested in ancient history. One of my favorite college electives was “Ancient Near Eastern Religions.” We read Gilgamesh, and I learned of Inanna. How wonderful that ancient peoples revered women for their strength and leadership, not just beauty. Although it does still seem odd for her and other Goddesses to rule over both love and war.
Note: it is the moon above the card in my photo and Selenite, “the goddess stone,” standing next to it. Card from “The Goddess Tarot” by Kris Waldkerr.
Inanna
Inanna
Ancient one
In your cloak of stars
“Queen of Heaven”
urging us to follow bliss.
Gypsum like feather wings
made Selenite under the moon
to shift our energy,
wand away insecurity.
The winged lion
at your side
to find our identity and power,
Power over self
for control is the sphere of self alone.
