Day 8 of National/Global Poetry Writing Month (AKA NaPoWriMo). Tarot card prompts.
Once again the poem came out differently than originally planned. Druids held a Pope-like position in Celtic culture. All rolled into one grand role, they were philosophers, healers, religious leaders, legal authorities, lorekeepers, nature intuitives, sages, and seers. Like Dalai Lamas, they learned from mentors and prepared for their roles from a young age.
But, it was the “Hold the Space” subtitle on the Druid card that grabbed the poem. Imagine a wise Druid or Druidess like a therapist helping a Celt through hard times. We, too, give the gift of our true presence to grieving friends.

Druid
Druid
Hold the space
Presence without judgment or fixing
Listening like deep-rooted trees
yet keeping our own ground
as we hold the space
for the griever.
Allow them to process
Touch with peace
Reflecting breathing.
Hold the space,
the space where healing begins
by offering our silent wisdom
Druid wisdom
Oak knower
Oak seer
who sees like the birds
that the soul goes on.
