Second Tarot card prompt for national/global poetry writing month (AKA NaPoWriMo). This card has been my patience and detachment from emotion for a couple of months now. It sits on my home office desk reminding me everything is information. Wait before making a decision. My grandfather had a saying “if you jump the creek, don’t get a wet foot.” Informed and thoughtful change of course instead of emotion driven impulse. Card from “Angels and Ancestor” pack by Kyle Gray, artist Lily Moses.

Leaves of tea
in a landscape
tell of future
as predicted by past.
Small choices
like trajectories of exponential degrees
make ripples,
disturbances in the deceptively placid same.
Before leaping the creek
observe, prepare
then trust and commit.
Life is long and windy.
Do not suffer your wet socks
but look again for information
for there are many creeks to jump
and many rivers to ford.
