There are so many wonderful birds that come to our bird-feeder. The woodpeckers are so bold and vocal. The cardinals so gorgeous. The goldfinch so pretty and flirty. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the Chickadee. They talk to me and never fly very far away when I am near. They don’t even mind when the tracker or skid steer is running in the yard.
Today, I have time to write and watch the birds out the window on a cold, windy day. Here is the poem the Chickadees inspired.
Chickadee I Am
Chickadee I am
Brave and chatty
Bouncing on the wind
not fighting it.
I share and opportune seed and suet found.
Patience to crack the round millet
for the soft nut-meat inside.
Energetic in my little hat
calling “Chickadee dee dee”
“Chickadee dee dee”
“Here I am”
“Here I am.”
Nice. Reminds me of Edie teaching her kindergarten kids about chic-a-dees. When on a field trip by school they saw one. The entire class was chic-a-deeing all the way back to class.

That must have been cute to witness an entire kindergarten class chick-a-deeing. Those are the moments in life. -Dawn
