Sommarsblót April 14-25

Today is posting catch-up day. My poems have been stuck in journal aching to be aired and shared. This one is almost a month late, but the weather today is perfectly Sommarsblót, a cool and sunny Spring day. I must say, it has been wonderful bringing back time with friends and family now that COVID19 is in good part tamed. Enjoy this social poem!

14 Sommarsblót

Sommarsblót April 14-25

The Norse and Welch Celtic in me
is celebrating Sommarsblót
Summer’s blood
Summer’s finding.
While still a chill on the breeze
the sun is strong enough
for shirt sleeves
and a quiet sit-down on a mossy rock
in the middle of a wild ramp patch.
Gone are the layers of winter.
The land is indeed waking
from the press of snow and frost.
Sprouting is that spirit of self-reliance.
This is the real time of new year resolutions
to use our virtuous gifts for good of self and all.
Rising is that Nordic social bliss
hatching out of our shelter-shells
to the joy of people.

Sommarsblót is the half month of mankind.
Its rune Mannaz “people” is the doubling of the Wunjo rune of “joy.”
Sommarsblót time of social joy
of manifesting divinity through our hands and deeds
to share and build community.
Summer’s blood
the return of life-giving warmth
to us,
through us
to each other
and to the land.
