Watching Old Shows

Poetry writing month dedicated to coping and thriving during the COVID-19 pandemic journey.

Usually the television in our house has sports blasting away. With sports shutdown for the pandemic, old shows are guaranteed grins from a bygone era before COVID-19 was even cooked up. Especially if you grew up with these shows, you will groan at the cheesy “plots” and smile for 45 minutes of light-heated fun. And, isn’t light-heated a good escape right now? Enjoy the poem and the memories.

Watching Old Shows

Tom Selleck’s dimpled smile
as he speeds off in the borrowed Ferrari
makes me smile
like the Love Boat theme
and Gopher in nautical shorts.
Muscle cars and corny humor
must help Starsky and Hutch
bag the bad guys.
Then there are those Good ol’ boys
never meanin’ no harm
they may be in trouble with the law
but the law loses the car chase every time.
Watching old shows
whether it’s the Brady bunch
coveting their vintage décor
or Charlie’s Angels
in hot pants,
we watch them for their levity
and guaranteed happy ending.
