Alter with an Altar

Poetry writing month dedicated to coping and thriving during the COVID-19 pandemic journey.

I have run across the concept of creating an altar or shrine in your home or yard a few times but had not, until last weekend, connected the concept to my little spaces. Pictured here is one of those spaces with gifts from nature walks and a framed poem. In fact, I have three such spaces. Apparently, I need an altar at the ready to re-center in all the places I live. If you don’t have an altar, you might consider making one. Enjoy the poem.

Alter with an Altar

Altar
A little space
that you make sacred
with meaningful treasures,
reverence, and care.

Space altered by
the meditations and prayers
you practice there.

A spiritual place
created by you
for you.

A connected space
where you can talk to
your angels
or loved ones passed away.

A place where you place
your wishes
and let go of your hurts.

Altar
where you take time out,
fold your hands,
bow your head,
and breathe.
