Chocolate Therapy

Poetry writing month dedicated to coping and thriving during the COVID-19 pandemic journey.

Last night I made some chocolate covered peanuts because it was easier than making Leah’s Warm Chocolate Melting cake recipe. Of course, today, I ate half of the batch. I had a French roommate when I lived in Boston in my 20s. She said that chocolate was good for the emotions. I was convinced it was her beauty secret too. So, chocolate therapy it is!

Chocolate Therapy

There are many therapies
for the body and the mind.
You could sit cross-legged
watching your breathing,
you could run a 5K,
or take the polar plunge
into an ice-cold lake.
I choose chocolate therapy.
yadda yadda there is science
behind chocolate
but mostly
it is goooood.
And, you can cover anything
in chocolate.
I even once had a spa treatment
covering my body in chocolate.
Whether it is straight up
single source dark chocolate,
chocolate covered peanuts,
or those “haystack” Christmas cookies
(do you know about those outside of Wisconsin?)
chocolate makes you feel alive,
indulged,
and so worth the extravagance
of a silky, off-sweet, luxurious bite.
Oh baby
this is good therapy.
