Poetry writing month, theme of Self-Care, Self-Calm as part of the collective whole.
Today’s poem is dedicated to Kala and Jenny. For fun at work, they are running a build-a-bunny contest where we use only items in our work area. Since we are working from home, the bunnies are quite interesting. Here is my bunny backside. A cotton-ball has been sitting on my coffee table waiting for this poem, so it got put to good use in the contest. There are so many different textures in this bunny. It was a tactile pleasure to build. I don’t often rhyme in poems, but this one called for the extra fun of rhyme. Touch and enjoy.
We talk about yummy tastes
and sun on our face.
We talk about pleasing sound
music in our devices can be found.
We talk about our emotions
in the midst of these days of commotions.
All these things are for real
but what we forget is finger feels.
Those tactile pleasures
touching fluffy, fuzzy treasures
cotton balls, puppy bellies,
and squeezing gummy jellies.
Faux fur blankies, warm soapy slippery water
and pulling apart fresh lofty bread for butter.
Fingers feels can sooth
Finger feels improve our mood.
Those sensitive wonderful tips
of your hands and lips.
Seek out textures and relax what tenses
for comfort through all our senses.
