Crack of Spring

It is the tenuous time when winter is loosing its grip and spring is pushing through the waning snow. This is a lovely poem just being in that crack of spring yesterday. Enjoy the poem. (Sorry no photo, upload speeds to low).

Crack of Spring

The chipmunks are out.
Melting snow
Cloud schmeared sky.
Sap pulling us all up
and out of our nests.

Chipmunks skittering
over the crusts of snow.
Bare trees
Steady
Patient.

Impatient creeks
beginning to fill and flow
taking the snow to sea
or wherever it goes.

The flowers are waiting.
Babes are stirring in wombs of all sizes,
Chipmunks wombs
bouncing along with mother.

This is life
and the death that gives life.
Is it by chance
the injured deer
fell at the crack of spring?
Feeding the woodpeckers,
the sleepy raccoons,
and the scruffy coyotes
with holes in their socks.

Winter has culled the weak
now spring rouses babes
and the sap fed buds
and the chipmunks.
