Lake Tahoe, No Ski Day

I haven’t made enough time and energy for writing lately. Sometimes it takes time away at a beautiful nature spot to remember how important writing is to the psyche. Three poems flowed out of me during a morning to myself on a ski trip. Here is the first:

Lake Tahoe
no ski day

The breeze
the tea
giant pinecones
not Sugar Pines
ah Jeffrey Pines
tall and orange
stubby, bouncy branches
to withstand the burdens of snow
lovely snow
fast, dry, fluffy snow

a few flakes begin to fall
float rather
like me, floating today
back float
in calm waters
looking up
from my tea
and the Tahoe breeze
thinking how my branches
bounce back too.
