Pretty Horse

Day 12 NaPoWriMo. This week, I met a beautiful lady named Svetlana originally from Czechoslovakia, now split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. She told me about the peaceful Velvet revolution in 1989 that changed her country from Communism to Democracy. Like so many people who were at that pivotal college age during political upheaval, it affected her life and her decisions.

We all live within changing constructs on a macro scale and are influenced by people close to us on a micro scale. I am one of the lucky ones, living my dream but not without worries of the future. I need to be careful of the worries for sometimes they are the bit that holds us back.

Pretty Horse

Sometimes we dance for others
putting aside our dreams.
It is the pretty horse who
prances in line
who cannot throw the bit
and run free
and far.
She does not know
the sword is only ceremonial,
the hat only for show.
Someday,
she will shirk her rider,
take control of her long legs
and point them
where she wants to go.
He may follow
or he may stay
either way
this is her time,
nose into the wind,
her time to lead.
