The Art of Abundance

Day 9 NaPoWriMo. Today is for Scandinavian design lovers and stamp geeks. This Swedish stamp was designed and engraved by Martin Mörck. Martin was born in Sweden and designed stamps for a long list of countries including all of Scandinavia. Martin was also an illustrator and did work for Louis Vuitton among others. This stamp pictures “Space without Affiliation” by Swedish sculptor Arne Jones. A quote from Arne, “Art is not born of a lack. It is born of abundance.” Enjoy this abundant poem.

The Art of Abundance

I watch the woodpeckers
sus out a succulent bit of fat
from the feeder
and think
how rich am I.

I look over our garden
just barely immerging from winter
and think
how rich am I.

We walk in the spring woods
wet with watercress
held fast by mossy alders
and think
how rich am I.

I bring in pussy willows
admiring their soft catkins
and think
how rich am I.

How rich am I to live
to live on this green and blue planet
to live with love
to live with words and sensations.

How rich I am
to share abundance
to share this poem.
