Wisconsin Roots

This poem had two inspirations. One is getting my ancestry.com results (Norwegian, German and a little Swedish). The second is my hometown gearing up for the second annual Wisconsin Ginseng Festival this fall. As you know Ginseng is a root, hence the ancestry root theme.  We should all be proud of what we have grown from our root-stock. Enjoy the poem!

Wisconsin roots

Norwegian loggers
cleared the land.
German farmers
tilled the soil.
They mingle in me.
Coppiced, I grow upon their roots
Blonde and strong
Springing from
the foundation of Wisconsin.
