Flirty birds

Poem #15 – Stamp collection – National/Global Poetry Writing Month 2017

Flirty birds

Spring birds
are flirty birds
whistling and posturing,
showing of their plumage
and nest building skill.

They put on their lipstick,
aftershave, and
skinny jeans with bedazzled pockets.

Even if you have a committed mate
who loves your spots and door dings,
knows your morning breath,
and your favorite lounge pants
with the hole in the side,
spring is time to polish off routine
and let your pretty feathers shine.

As New Year’s resolutions
have faded,
spring cracks the cocoon shell
and breeds cabin fever.
It’s time to spruce up the ol’ nest,
and firm up the ol’ bod,
and take your mate out for a spring bike ride
to enjoy the fresh air filled with flirty birds.
