Santa is real

Poem #9 – Stamp collection – National/Global Poetry Writing Month 2017

Santa is real

I learned this in Boston
where a good graffitist
stenciled “Santa is real” around town.
Amy and I took our smiling selfie by one.

My nephew asked me at age 10
if Santa was real like gnomes.
I truthfully told him
Santa is real if you believe in him.
He asked me if I believed in Santa.
I uttered a resounding “yes!”

Santa is hope,
good cheer.
giving of self
(which gets back more than you give).
Santa is magic and wonder
those things of childhood
we should not loose.

If you look closely
you can see Santa is most everyone
when they are at play or rest
or rocking a sleeping baby.

Santa is real
and all we have to do
for a little Christmas everyday
is believe in goodness.
