Reverence

Poem #8 – Stamp collection – National/Global Poetry Writing Month 2017

Reverence
Miracles of nature

Mushroom fairy rings
fruiting from their underground body
in a reverent circle.

A tiny beak
cracks its shell
from the inside.
A wet new chick
flops out into the world.

A pack of cackling coyotes.
Sound filling the still morning.
They sound not unhuman like
with their vocal chords vibrating
a war cry.

Alpenglow of sunrise.
Yellowing, sharpening.
A stand of trees cast
in golden light.
A barn temporarily painted
with amber.

Hoodoos of Bryce canyon
lined up like devout parishioners.
They once were under water
now sun worshippers
reverent to almighty nature
whose miracles are all around us
and within us
beating 100,000 times a day.
