Lost card

Lost card

You sent me
a pretty little pink card
on Valentine’s Day
with sparkles
and a forever stamp
and a check for our snowed-out,
non-refundable
girls trip to the beach.

It was lost,
snail mail gremlins
we presumed,
but we had a lovely,
long overdue
dinner and hearts open chat
to replace the lost check.

I got that card today,
April 26th,
a day I really needed
a message of “hugs & loves”
in your sweet handwriting,
halting for a moment
this too-busy world
of time speeding by
and friend-ships passing in the night.

As my roomie,
who found the lost card
surmised,
“a late surprise
is still a surprise”
and the gift
of friendship
it keeps on delivering.

Thank you Joann,
dear friend,
for the pretty card,
the sentiments it contains
and the gift of time together
its lateness granted.
