Calling Bird

I like to walk around outside and observe nature. Nature is wise and sometimes funny. This poem was inspired by the interplay of two birds I watched for several minutes.

Calling bird

Bird in the naked tamarack tree
Calling and calling for his beloved
She does not answer
His throat pulses as he chips
Calling, calling.

She ventures a small reply
His determination is renewed
telling her of his love and devotion
He calls to her
Come to me
Let me love you.

She comes to him
landing on a tamarack branch
She says…
You called me all the way over here
for a needle-less tamarack
when I was cozy
out of the freezing rain
in the lush cedar tree?
Next time you come to me.
