Boston from Above and Below

Boston from Above and Below

Top of the hub
Boston from above
City at night
Streaming ribbon of traffic
High rising topography of lights
to the edge of the unlit harbor.
Rich lobster bisque
and a designer martini.

Old Boston
Heart of the city
Layers of history
Site of the Boston massacre,
new cobbles over the blood of Crispus Attucks,
Mexican restaurant in the old bookstore
where George Walton’s skin-bound bibliopegy was made,
Government building where fan dancers
and street walkers once hailed,
Freedom trail over the winding cow path streets.
A city built upon chance and toil.

Old woven with new
I can feel the old souls
and the new rush.
The equalizing of society,
Boston strong,
A coming together,
Neighbors in the little-big city of 637,000 living souls
Globalizing of the mixing pot.
Boston, keeper of cultural bits,
Torrone in the North End,
Fine art and ballet,
Time worn graveyards,
The commons green,
Symbols of liberty and change.
