Love Scene – La Bayadere ballet

Birthdays are so important to me. They are a celebration of the day we started this wonderful life. They are a celebration of who we are and who were becoming. Thus, I do not celebrate my birthday only on the day. To kick off the birthday season, my friend and I attended the Boston Ballet’s performance of La Bayadere. It was fabulous! This poem is about the moving love scene between the Bayadere (temple dancer) and the warrior hero.

Love Scene  – La Bayadère
Boston Ballet

In a sensuous love dance
the hero lifts La Bayadère above him.
She, in her beauty and heart,
is greater than he.
He holds her shining in their passion
above the sacred fire
up to the firmament.
She is pure of love and devotion.

Slowly he flows her down against him,
his lips to her womb
to her heart
to her throat
to her lips
to her breath
to her mind,
Worshiping her with his body and strength,
She honors him with the gift of her body,
Weaving her limbs in his,
Creating a beautiful fabric
from their once separate threads.

They stand face to face,
heart to heart.
Pressing chakra to chakra
Immutable
Unbreakable
Love eternal
Nirvana
