Studio on Slough Road
Cape Cod, Massachusetts
White cloths still cover the tables on the patio
now sprinkled with forest dust.
A crisscross of tea lights is strung overhead.
Candle wax in long legs coats hurricane vases.
Scattered art installations remain on site
now forgotten with the other party remnants.
Summer and the lively artists have gone back…
back to the mainland,
back to Tucson,
back to their other realities.
The little studio nestled in the trees
of the boggy cape is quiet,
is patient, is waiting for another season
when the dust is cleared away
and tall candles sink long into the chatting night
to birth a new crop of synergistic art
conceived in the fertile mingling of minds and hearts and ideas
to fully be in our humanness,
creating community in relationship with
the trees and the cranberries and the ocean
lapping at the edges of this curving spit.
