Pale orange fox

Pale Orange Fox

There’s a bold fox,
pale orange,
hunting in the cranberry bog.
The tourists are draining away now.
The fat juicy fruit is gone
but the stems and leaves remain
in the golding landscape.
There’s a tucking in, a bundling,
holding your warmth against your core,
luxuriating in your thoughts,
touching the rough bark of nature
breathing its herby repose
as the eye lids of the season grow heavy
and the day makes way for quiet twilight.
The last bits of light roll over the lines of the earth
and the owl takes flight.
The bundled light inside kindles and
grows and burns and spills out
onto paper and canvas and clay.
Speaking to the gallery of humanity,
recreating again and again
beauty and meaning and sense and purpose and cycles
and connection to the pale orange fox
hunting in the cranberry bog.
