Haleakala Sunrise

Haleakala Sunrise

Daily Awe
by Dawn Anderson

Molten sky
A firelight backdrop
to the veining of dark filbert branches
strewn still with ragged remnant leaves.

Higher and higher the fire builds
spreading like a lapping forest conflagration
making alive the Eastern sky.

A cause for morning pause,
to contemplate beauty, nature,
to re-adjust the dials of what is reality.

The hour of rebirth
A new chance
to sup from nature’s vital colors,
to fuel with daily awe
an unconquerable spirit,
a sense that all is one,
one is peace and beauty and love

Blue Sunrise
by Dawn Anderson

On the ides of March
Sunrise wore her blue leotard
as she unfolded from child’s pose.
I wonder if Caesar liked blue
or if she was still sad for losing him.

Sunrise at Wendover
by Dawn Anderson

the night’s desolate clouds
strangled purple
light afire their haunches
sitting in blazon coals.

the gray-blue of night’s sky
splits in long seems of brilliant white-yellow,
a silent reverie beckoning the neighborhood awake.

in the distance hear the hum of commuters
looking down at the road
droning to their routine.

look up!
look up and see nature’s good morning,
a wondrous signal fire of the vibrance of life.

the joys of the day begin with fanfare,
a slow explosion of light,
a geyser of gold spraying up from the cracked horizon
melting away the purple clouds and undimming the blue sky.

sky is alive for all who will look up
look up and see the grand arrival of queen sun
in the sunrise parade
her shining face smiling royal warmth upon us.

good morning my children
go forth into the day with gladness and light in your heart
and make this day good in the kingdom of earth
